Not Quite Ready for a Blog or Website? Think about a Facebook Page

If you have a business or are setting up a business, you can create a Facebook page and have all the opportunities that are offered with your user profile social account when you share with friends and families. There are several reasons you may want to set up a page in facebook.

Forbes says: “Is Facebook becoming the social operating system of the Internet, poised to support a whole net generation of business? …Wharton’s Fader sees Facebook commanding a mass market in a way traditional forms of media no longer do. ‘Even TV does not have the same level of engagement. Right now, Facebook is unique.’”

Facebook Pages vs. User Profiles

Everyone using Facebook has set up a user profile. This is how you communicate with you friends, family and colleagues. You can keep your user profile private, which protects your information. With a Page however, you can display information about your business which is generic.

Facebook Page

Some Features of Using Pages Are:

  • Pages are visible to everyone - even people who aren’t logged into Facebook can see your pages.
  • Pages can have an unlimited number of fans - currently regular users can have up to 5,000 friends.
  • Users can automatically support your Page without confirmation - User profiles have to be approved.
  • You can send updates to all your fans - User profiles cannot message all their friends at once.

Finding Your Page

  • Name Search - Users can search for you by name using the quick search bar on any page or by going to the main search page.
  • Fans’ Profiles - A link to your face book Page will appear in the profile of each of your fans in their “I’m a fan of…” box.
  • News Feed and Mini-Feed - Users will see stories in their News Feed when their friends become fans of your Page.
  • Public View - Your Page is visible to people who are not logged into Facebook, so you can add links to your Page on other websites and blogs. These Pages will also be indexed by search engines!
  • Page Dashboard - Users can browse through their own and other Pages with recent activity.
  • Share - Fans who like your Page can permanently post it to their own profile and invite others to check it out.

Using Applications on Your Page

You can use many of the free applications on Facebook to add quality to your page. This can be a way to get a start prior to creating a blog and/or website.

You can publish events on your Page, upload photos and create videos to add quality to your page. These are only a few things you can do with your new Page.

Maybe you want to help folks, but don’t have a blog. You can use Notes. This is Facebook’s blogging feature.

Maybe you want to attract attention, post something on the discussion board you have created in your page.

I hope you are beginning to see the enormous capability of a Facebook Page. With little to no IT skills you can be on your way to branding yourself on the internet. This will lead you to a successful business.
